Lares Trek 4D

Description de Lares

It’s an adventure through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing through the rich pastoral regions of the Urubamba mountain range, going over the snowing peaks and the subtropical valleys. Along the journey, we will enjoy the scenic lakes, natural thermal medicinal baths, and the Inca archaeological remains. By being a remote place, the area has let its people preserve the traditions of Inca weaving using llama and alpaca wool, the cultivation of potatoes, and the weaving of colored clothing made by hand with Inca motives. This tour is experiential, where you can see up close the customs and the ways of life of the Andean people. You’ll get to know native communities with colored clothing of the Andes, archaeological remains, and getting to discover a variety of flora and typical fauna in the region. On the last day you will get to visit the citadel of Machupicchu.

Detailed itinerary of the tour

We will pass by your hotel to begin our adventure, travelling through the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will arrive at the medicinal thermal baths of Lares. Along the way we will be able to get a glimpse of the majestic sacred valley with its fertile land. Then we will arrive in the small town of Calca (2940 meters above sea level). We will then go up, passing by the small settlements of Totora and Maucaupata. Finally after a trip of about 4 hours, we will arrive in Lares (3,200 meters above sea level), visiting the thermal baths to take a refreshing bath. After lunch and after having met up with our porters, we will begin the trek, arriving at our first encampment in 4 hours time in Wacawasi (3600 meters above sea level).

After breakfast, we will begin the trek in the direction of our second encampment. This day will begin early where we will ascend down to the Abra Ipsay. Along the way we will get to see different rural communities, as well as their different clothing and textiles that they all produce for their daily usage. We will arrive at the Ipsaycocha Lagoon which is the place where we will have lunch. After a nap, we will continue on to Patacancha where we will spend our second night here.

After breakfast, we will continue with our trek to the small town of Willoq, a town that still preserves its original customs. We will also pass by small towns along the way during our trek where we will be able to observe the archaeological sites of Qochapata and Pumamarca, to get to appreciate the famous Inca Terraces. At around 2:00pm, we will arrive in the town of Ollantaytambo, located along the banks of the Vilcanota River. Located in a fertile valley, this old Inca settlement is considered to be one of the most important living museums in the world. After lunch, we will have free time until 7:30pm. Then we will board the train towards Aguas Calientes, spending the last night in an accommodation that includes a private bath and hot water. (This last part could be moved to the departure times of your train ticket, because it depends on the spaces available on the Peru Rail or the Inca Rail, the time of 12:30pm is also taken into consideration).

Very early on, we will depart by walking to the Inca site of Machu Picchu so that we can see the sunrise. Then, we will have our guided tour around the whole sanctuary, which will last about 2 hours and 30 minutes. After the tour, we will have some free time until around 3:00pm because at 4:00pm we will need to board the train to return back to Cusco.
