Inca Trail 2D

camino-inca-2d-1n

HISTORY: During the time of the Incas, there were two types of trails, one that is referred to as the royal trail, also known as the Qapaqñan in Quechua. The other one is the common trail, Runaq Purinan in Quechua. These trails were known as seqe which refers to the trails of the sumo king (inca). They were only used for the royal way that connected each one of the cities. However, along the route, there were also small villages where the Inca would take short breaks. We begin this excursion at the km. 82. It’s a religious trek, which unites the city of Machupicchu, which is also what the famous chaski used to trace the distance that he used by carrying his quipu (knot cords) so that the representative of each ayllu used to connect themselves with the Inca, along with the social structure he had.

Detailed itinerary of the Inca Trail 2 days

Itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

Being at around 4:30am, we will pass by your hotel so that we can transport you to the train station, and take a journey to the km. 104, where the guide will welcome you and point out the journey of the trip to you at the km. 104 mark, which is located to the northeast of Cusco at 2055 meters above sea level. This is where we will visit Chachabamba, the second archaeological site, located at 2700 meters above sea level. Our ascent up will be 3 hours long to a place called Wiñay Wayna where you will have lunch (box lunch), and then you will continue the journey to the Intipunku (the sun gate) with a small descent and a small ascent that will last for an hour and a half. Continuing the journey, we will get a first glimpse of the Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary (we won’t visit it but will just pass through the checkpoint) and then we will finally go down to the town of Aguas Calientes. We will stay the night at a very comfortable hostel and at night you will have dinner at a restaurant in Aguas Calientes.

DAY 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

The guide will coordinate the last night so that you can go up to Machu Picchu. Afterwards we will have a guided tour for approximately 2 hours. Within the archaeological site of the same name, we will visit the relevant places within the agricultural and urban sectors which are found within the archaeological site, places such as the main square, the Circular Tower, the Inti Watana or Wayranas, the Royal Courts, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries within the urban sector.

After the tour we will have free time to visit this site on our own time. If you have the entry ticket to HUAYNAPICCHU, you can make the trip at this time. Then we will return to the town of Aguas Calientes to have lunch, visiting the town and returning to Ollantaytambo according to the departure time of your train ticket.

Upon arrival at the train station in Ollantaytambo, we will be waiting for you to return to the city of Cusco.

Note:

The ascent to Huaynapicchu can be done by yourself, without the presence of a guide. In case you would like to enter Huaynapicchu, you will have reserve your ticket well in advance or the other option is that you will need to see if the climb up to Huaynapicchu is available. The fact that this entry is requested a lot mainly is due to the fact that only 400 people can enter a day, each separated into two groups.
